Went out of the house for the first time in almost two months. And by going out I mean going out to meet friends. Got teased by dad for that -.-
Two days! Just two more days of work before my internship comes to an end. I can imagine spending the whole of February at home, on my very comfortable couch, watching my favourite TV programs. Ah! February, I'm looking forward to you <3
and I think my department manager just offered me a job!!! ^^

I had to decline that job offer - going to have to go back to school very soon, and plus, I'm too excited for my plans for February to accept the offer.
hours at the office has been passing extra slowly the past couple of days, and its torturing when tummy is not being very patient for food.
brows are starting to get out of shape, and so is my body thanks to all the food from new year's celebration. I suspect all that festivities from Christmas is still stuck somewhere in my thighs. Oh boy.

Resolutions?

Welcoming 2012, I didn't have any particular resolution in mind, and as much as I'd like to stick to this, particularly because no resolution means no stress on having to try to achieve something that is probably made on impulse (because everyone else has their resolutions and I don't) and no stress means no pimples on my face, and no pimples on my face means I'd look more presentable, which means less stress, which means I'll be happier, which means I'll be able to exude a more positive aura and everyone else would be happy, which means I might actually get a tiny speck of chance to get myself off the singles market! Okay, scratch the last one off. I barely have time to put on a face mask and paint my nails, what more to say time for a partner, a pet perhaps, but a human partner .. I highly doubt the success of that happening. So that one I'll keep for another day; when there's time left after pampering myself.

Lets get back to the purpose of this very wordy post; not making unreasonable resolutions on impulse for the new year means improving bit by bit, throughout the year, on things that actually matter, and I'm comfortable with the idea of changing subtly. Three weeks into 2012, I'm made to realise one thing I'd need to begin changing. Let's put it this way, compared to to family and the friends I associate myself with, I don't have a very approachable face, and probably not a very approachable personality as well. Believe me, I have the confessions of many. So I suppose it is high time to kick start the subtle change in this particular department. The key word here is subtle. See you in the next post!

It is b-e-a-utiful Saturday where I am typing this from, and ofcourse where else would I be apart from my room! oh-so-lifeless you might say, but a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do.

Anyways, I've been having my playlist play on shuffle mode the past week for just because reasons. Interestingly, I find this particular song repeating quiet a lot for a playlist on shuffle mode. Not complaining; it's been rather helpful I must admit. You see, I'm not quite in the merriest of moods lately. Being stuck in the hoo-haas of three assignments all dued within the same week, I suppose, dilutes some merriment in oneself. Though I've finished one of three assignments, I'm still left with two, both of which dues in the coming week. Dreadful, just the thought of it.

So I'm thankful for Mary Poppins and her spoon full of sugar for the motivation. By the end of the coming week, I'll be rid of all the pressure and hopefully be back to my crazy old self again. See you real soon loves!

Anyways, my parents' friends' children got married last weekend. This is their wedding. From the choice of flowers to the pretty dresses on the bridesmaids, I'm pretty sure it was a pink-themed wedding, a very summer wedding indeed.

The past week was tiring; all that shopping, all that partying, all that packing. As I've told you in the previous post, first semester for the year came to an end, so after extending my stay to play with the girls, its time I take that flight back home again. Am wondering if I ought to be glad to tell you that the 'delayed flight' jinx hasn't left me yet.

I have no idea what island this is, I do know its one beautiful heck of a view from way up there.

Monash conducted yet another fire drill on Tuesday. It was my second experience since entering the University. That was back in First Year, when my girlfriend, Audrey and I were having our usual Friday Business Statistics tutorial in one of the many computer laboratories. Like most Freshmen, we panicked, ran down the stairs as fast as we could and followed security instructions. As you can probably figure, I have too good a memory for non-academically related things like this :P

When the emergency evacuation alarm rang this time around, I was Audrey (again) and Caryn, another girlfriend of mine, on the fourth floor of the Engineering Building. Learning our lessons well, we walked down the stairs, keeping our cool, like most Seniors do. Instead of standing under the scorching hot sun with the rest of the students, I sat under the shade, chatting away with my relatively new found friend, Bryce! I just cannot afford to repeat the sun burn experience from the first fire drill. Whitening creams and essences are so expensive nowadays. Seniors =.=

I know it has been awhile, and I should be punished for neglecting this blog, so I'd like to apologize for that. I just finished two of the remaining assignments for the semester two days ago, so now that I'm assignment-free, I reckon I'd have a tad bit more time to spare keeping the blog active again.

Three of my girlfriends and I went out on a little adventure on Friday. The plan was to eat out at a so-called chocolate heaven somewhere in Mont Kiara but Lyndy, our magic carpet, just can't seem to find the way. So we moved on to Plan B - after three attempts! I would have moved to Plan B after the first attempt, but the girls, they be persistent. So I put on my shades, made myself comfortable in the back seat, and laughed at their antics. Below are some snapshots of the b-e-a-utiful day itself. Enjoy.

Macarons. Everyone's favourite dessert of recent days no? As much as I like macarons, I still have a soft spot for good ol' ice-cream :)

Next stop, Uniqlo. The place to go if you like casual tees. And cotton. They have lots of those.

Japanese for dinner. That'd be Sushi Tei in Pavillion. From what they have on the menu, its a close alternative to Sushi Zanmai in terms of price and food variety.

How has your weekend been thus far? Mine was rather boring dare I say.

Friday was tiring, especially with the extra two-hour long lecture I had to attend in addition to the three tutorial classes I'd usually have. My Saturday was spent typing out one of my assignments in Starbucks, sipping on Green Tea Latte. I personally still have a preference for their Green Tea Frapp though. And Sunday morning was spent producing the four pictures as what you'd be able to see from the image above. I'm probably exaggerating the timeframe a little, but producing the pictures would be the highlight so to say.

Oh well, I suppose I've got my Facebook profile pictures stocked up for a couple of weeks or so.

Spring/Summer Nails: I see Spots!

Here's another nail post for spring, but I suppose with the bright colours, you could well use it for summer as well.

Spots are relatively easy to do, even for a beginner I suppose. All you have to worry about is where you'd want to position your spots. At least that's what goes through my mind when I do spots and dots. And since I like my nails a little on the crazy end, I usually alternate the colours on each hand.

Just so you know, I did not apply any base nor top coat on this one though it would have looked nicer if I did. Because for the x-th time, I left my box of nail polish back at home. Until the next nail post, I certainly hope you like this.

What's in my pencil bag?

I just got back from campus, and I was taking all my stuff out from the handbag in preparation to commence assignment typing and tutorial work when I thought about how bloggers would let their readers have a sneak peak into their bags.

Well, I don't have a decent picture of what I actually stuff into my bag at the moment, but I do happen to have a pretty decent picture of the contents of my make-up bag turned pencil bag! One I took last night when Brainikins just deliberately refused to focus on my corporate governance assignment.

So there you go;

one mechanical pencil for my random urge to doodle,
one eraser to erase (d'uh),
one correction pen to correct, which I'd usually need for my accounting homework,
one stapler to keep my lecture notes together,
one red pen for important notes and to-do's,
two black pens (one in ink and one in ballpoint), and
seven highlighters!
I have a ruler too, but it was used as a bookmark for my Taxation text so yeah .. one ruler.

One of my gal friends turned twenty-one very recently, so here are pictures from that day itself, in chronological order. I took the liberty to do just that.

Four of us went to birthday girl's house hours earlier in attempt to cover the floor with balloons. Which we did. Almost half the floor space. Maybe a quarter. With minimal help from any pumps of any sort.

Two Balloon Blowers brought along with them their make-up bags. With make-up essentials actually in them. I'd call it The Magic Bag ;) but it'd probably be known as The Bag of Torture for the birthday girl.

Do I need to explain this? Pretty obvious isn't it? Its picture-taking session. So there you are, meet the Balloon Blowers and Birthday Girl. I'd assume you would be able to guess who's who.

How was your weekend? Saturday made me feel as if I was on house arrest, Sunday was a little better since I get to go out of the hostel for a bit. On Monday, I went out on a little shopping cum eating trip with my sister after class. She rented a car so we could scratch the hell of taxi experience out from our day's list. So here are photographic evidence of what we did in Empire Shopping Mall.

Fried Cheesecake from Chillis! Sinful this one. The cheesecake balls were rich in flavour. Perhaps a wee bit too rich. I suppose that's where the lump of vanilla ice-cream comes in handy. Helps lighten the tongue a little.

Mine; Crispy Honey Chipotle. My favourite on the menu so far!

Tea at Whisk was awesome! Carrot cake was uh-may-Zing!! so rich. so sweet. so yummy. so sinful. And isn't our bag of macarons so colourful? Each colour has a different flavour. I liked purple and yellow ones best. Probably because they're sweeter than the rest. That's my sweet tooth for you. Whee~

I must still have sugar high. Just can't seem to sit down and concentrate on work earlier in the library. So I had to wave a white flag and take the early bus back.

While my friends were happily bargaining and buying bags and bags of fruits and veges, I stood next to them, drinking and enjoying the atmosphere. Probably not so much at the fish and chicken section though. We basically zoomed past them.

When in Sarawak, do as the Sarawakians do: Sarawakian Laksa for breakfast.

See that? That's Sarawakian Laksa, and that's what I had for breakfast today. I'm not very good a food reviewer, but heck I shall give this a shot.

Here in Sarawak, we like good ol' laksa for breakfast, well, at least the obvious majority of us. What you'll find in a bowl of Sarawakian laksa is a hand full of mee hoon (local name for rice vermicelli), in a Sambal belacan (chilli and shrimp paste) and santan (coconut milk) based soup, topped with big fat prawns, strips of chicken, julienned omelette, and sometimes with bean sprouts too. The soup has a milky-spicy taste, resulting from the sambal belacan and coconut milk that makes the soup. Squeezing calamansi lime into the dish adds a sour taste to the soup, which works like magic. A bowl would cost an average of 3MYR to 5MYR, not too expensive to calm that rumbly in the tummy!!

So that's Sarawakian Laksa for you.

Last night, we celebrated the fifteenth day of the lunar new year, known also as Chap Goh Meh. In the Hokkien dialect, chap goh means fifteen, while meh means night. Chap Goh Meh marks the end of the new year celebration, so like the eve of the lunar new year, chinese families gather to have yet another dinner together, and when the clock strikes twelve, put on a few rounds of fireworks and firecrackers to officially bring the celebration to an end.

I was told that traditionally, young women throw oranges into the river in hopes of finding a good husband. Just so you know, that's one tradition I've never bothered to follow.

We had a visit from our Catholic priests, three of them! There's also two other priests-to-be's and one fellow Catholic uncle who came along with them. It was fun having them as guests since they're a tad bit on the funny side, and also because we're quite familiar with them. Okay, maybe an teeny bit more than just quite. It's a long story. One that doesn't belong in this particular post.

So we were told that our house was their twenty-first house for that day alone. I didn't think that would even be a possible feat, but since they are priests, and I'd naturally assume they wouldn't be lying through their noses, I have to say that's admirable. TWENTY-FIRST!! ohmyholygod!!

I'm not quite sure about how this works in other countries, but here in Malaysia, Chinese New Year is the time when you have guests over at your house if you're Chinese and celebrating that is. During Chinese New Year, the host (only if they're married) are supposed to give out ang paos (directly translated as red packets) to their guests (only if they're not married yet). I'd be lying through my nose if I said having guests are all fun and entertaining because they aren't. hmm .. let's just put it this way, it's this time of the year some would probably realise how many friends and relatives they actually have so by the end of the day, you'll be all worn out and ready for a good night's sleep.

Here's a closer look at my lunar new year nails. Well, at least my trail version. I still don't know if I should keep this design, or paint on a different one. It's already new year's eve today, and there's still so much cleaning up to do about the house and wet nails would slow things down a lot. We have to get the house as squeaky clean as possible by midnight because you see, no cleaning (sweeping in particular) is allowed on the first day of the lunar new year. Superstitions you see.

And have I mentioned I have an exam to study for as well? Yes you can say I am not in a mood for celebrations at the moment.

I met my sister for lunch yesterday, and her tongue's craving for lamb brought us to TGIF - relatively pricey choice for a financially lacking student like myself, but once in a (long) while, it shouldn't matter too much.

I thought the chicken meat was a wee bit on the dry side, which I did not appreciate. I did however, appreciate the slight spiciness from the Jalapeño, and how well the chicken and (Parmesan) cheese coated macaroni tasted when taken together. yumm~

Subtly starting the new year.

Can you believe it? One year just past us by, and today we start a whole new year, again! With every start of a new year comes the millions of earth inhabitants who'd brainstorm millions if each made one resolution, or perhaps gazillions more if they took the liberty to make a list as long as their letter to dear 'ol Santa Clause.

I don't usually make an effort to make new years' resolutions, probably because they would probably last .. two weeks max? So I never bothered. But this year, or more like this morning, when I kinda think back about the past couple'o years over the smell of my cup of hot cocoa, 2007, 2009 and 2010 weren't the best years I've had when they could have been a whole lot better. So this year, I'm going to give this resolution thing a try.

This year, I, Kimberly, shall learn to improve on my time management skills.

I hope I did not just made this little resolution of mine on impulse. So hopefully, I can make this last at least six months or so. Okay, so that's mine. Did you make any new year's resolution(s)?

I took down the Christmas tree this morning, and unlike how I felt while putting it up, taking it down wasn't all that happy and exciting. At all!

The garlands and wreaths had to go too. Together with the baubles, angels, bells and faux poinsettias, they went jingling back into the Christmas Decorations Box. Arranged properly ofcourse. I took the liberty to do just that for self-satisfaction purposes. Until next December, when its time to take them out again, the box shall be upstairs, sitting right next to the wrapped up Christmas tree. Next occasion, Valentine's Day. Not going to be very exciting I predict.

I can't think of a title. I just like this road.

Let me introduce you to the prettiest road in Bintulu, well, at least that's what I think.

This is the road we take to church every Sunday morning. It's beautiful I tell ya. Driving up the road, you have a spectacular view of the South China Sea on the left, and if you turn to your right, you might just catch a golfer or two on the greens. And if you drive the other way down the road, logically, you'll have the beach on you right and the golf club on your left, hence, what you should see in the pictures above.

Here's my third post on Christmas nails. The pictures above are taken somewhere back in October. I thought they looked very Christmas-y, so I decided to save them, until now.

I love this design for two reasons; its really easy to create, and on top of that, I don't have to be neat. Okay, so all you need is a bottle of silver coloured glitter polish, and top and base coats of you want them to last a little bit longer. There's one thing you should know when using glitters though; they're relatively hard to remove.

This happened a few days ago, and I think the first picture on the top says a lot doesn't it? They're coconut flavoured cupcakes with vanilla cream icing, home-made, by me and my mom.

I received lots of messages scribbled on my Facebook wall, which seem to be the norm in recent years, at least since people connected more with each other through social networks than in real life. Most messages wished that I'd have a blast, which in literal sense I'm glad I didn't. I did have a nice quite dinner with the family, something which is more to my liking.

I've been baking lately. Perhaps this isn't much of a surprise since Christmas is ever so close now. Aren't you excited? I know I am. My mom and I are basically done with cookies, so we're only left with cake baking. Hmm, looks like I've forgotten to snap a picture of the chocolate chip cookies. Oh well.

Christmas Is Here!! Already?

It isn't Christmas quite yet, but I can't help but smell the scent of Christmas in the atmosphere. On December 11th was held the annual Christmas Parade in my little town. Participants of the parade were members of the different churches, who by the thousands, once every year, come together as one, and walk around town, sharing the Christmas spirit. Or something like that.

I used to take part in this parade, just once, because someone has to be the spectator. And that would be me. So every year, I stand somewhere along the road, attempt to take pictures of moving town inhabitants with my digicam, and spot familiar faces. Every year. Never failed. So if you scroll down a little, you'll see what I saw that evening, paused in time.

Poor sheperd boy, you were kinda cute. Too bad you waved at me, not realising I wasn't shooting with a DSLR and now your face is a blur. Anyways, a merry Christmas to you too.

Here's a blurred look at traditional costumes worn by native Sarawakian women. They were really pretty, and the decorative coin belts were beautiful under the yellow lights of the streetlamps.

This one's a truck carrying little girls in angel costumes. Must be a bunch of naughty ones these ones. Keeps them from running all around perhaps. I d'know. I'm just saying.

Somewhere behind the angels was another truck, this one carring a group of men, playing christmas hymns.

The handsomely blurred looking man in black is Fr. Michael. He's our Catholic priest.

The parade had thousands of participants, dancing, carrying banners and hand-made laterns and a whatever it is related to Christmas. Its too bad I couldn't capture them well enough to share here on the blog. Perhaps I should start saving for a better camera?

I got up this morning, head to the kitchen and found that I ran out of hot choc. If you've been following the blog, you would, and you should have realised my love for hot chocholate. That's why this is an emergency. The worse part is, I can't find any hot malt that I'd usually substitute my hot choc with! This is bad. I need to go out for a little shopping trip. A grocery shopping trip.

My family and I just came back from our (almost) annual holiday road trip down to a neighbouring town called Miri. We live in Bintulu, which makes Miri a two-hour journey by car. When in Miri, we eat and we shop, period. We had duck rice and dim sum, and we shopped for books, household items and even more food. So its more of a food holiday in that sense. I should finish up tweaking the pictures now, see you real soon!

And hello to you too December! I'm definitely not disappointed to see you. I guess November's really busy to be in such a hurry to leave.

Anyways, I tried my hands on making cupcakes yesterday, very red cupcakes. They don't look as red after tweaking, so they'll just have to be maroon cupcakes to you. They didn't taste as sweet as I've expected them to be. In fact, they were rather bland, dare I admit. I suppose the recipe needs some tweaking too.

It has been quite some time since my last post on nails hasn't it? If I remember correctly, my last nail post was back in October for Halloween. Now that's close to a month ago! Apologies if I've kept you waiting for too long. So here's my first post on Christmas nails I'd like to call, Santa's Elf and His Candy Cane, as you would have read this from the title already.

So here's my Christmas tree. Well, part of my Christmas tree. The theme for this year's tree happens to be "Balls", since our box of Christmas decorations was practically filled with baubles anyways. So I had my youngest little sister help me out with the decorating, while I clean up the mess from unwrapping the tree and stuff like that.

I turned the lights on last night, and it was so pretty I couldn't stop myself from jumping and clapping (and a teeny tiny bit of screaming (comes in a package. can't help it.)) in excitement. A bit strange for someone my age, but it doesn't matter because the it was such a pretty sight!

In the mood for Christmas.

I've been busy with the housework lately; cleaning and organizing, but the funny thing is, it seems work has no end. Just when I thought I was doing quite well. Oh well, on a brighter note, I managed to get one important thing done; I finally got the Christmas tree out from the storage closet. phew! So while I do some tweaking to the more recent pictures I took, have a look at some of those I finished tweaking. I know they're a lot more than what I've been uploading for a single post. The internet connection is behaving well today, so I might as well make the most out of it.

So I'm finally done with exams, and its time to go back home again. And after a two-hour flight across the South China Sea earlier in the morning, I am!

On my way back, I snapped a couple of pictures to share here on the blog. They're all combined because it'll take too long to load each individually. Call me lazy, call me impatient. Look up if you haven't already. I particularly liked how the clouds looked like from the plane. Don't you think they look a lot like cotton balls? A sea of floating cotton balls! Ah, it's beautiful how nature works.

Well, as you can see, I have succumbed to my little habit of doodling again. Only this time, I inked my skin instead of paper.

I was curious how my arm would look like with a huge tattoo of a cherry blossom on it (I have a slight liking for Asian elements like this), so I took a pen and started "tattooing" myself. My curiosity is all gone now, so that being said, I'm left to wait for the ink to fade.
I'm pretty satisfied, considering its my the fact that I was doodling on skin at five in the morning.

Apologies for not being on the blog the past week. Exams got in the way, like they always do.

I still have one more paper to go before my heart can start beating at ease again. It's going to be on the 16th that one.

Whilst having one of our small talk session, my roommate and I decided to give our room a little more personality. And being the financially insufficient students we are, it didn't take us too long to decide on glow-in-the-dark stickers. So with our tiny budget, we went shopping, came back, and put on our little interior designers' hats. Not like there's much skill needed, but anyways..

Its nice to go to sleep looking at the stars. I've learnt to appreciate this since I came over to the city where stars don't shine as bright if I could find any at all. I had my bedroom decorated with glow-in-the-dark stars back at home, so it certainly feels a lot more like home again.

It is that time of the year again, where students like myself are supposed to be putting on our nerd hats because final examination is lurking round that ugly corner again. yikes!

Given the fact that I have less than three weeks left to get myself (and now insufficient knowledge) together for four of my papers, here's a post on Halloween to keep you company in case I get so absorbed in my preparation I magically forget I had a blog. Miracles happen.

Halloween. A night where one could well witness Elvis Presley wake up from the dead, walking down the street in full stage costume with sunglasses and all, in the middle of the night, giving out sweets to .. Medusa!? wth.

Anyways, last year, a couple of my college friends and I went out for a so-called Halloween dinner, because each one was supposed to come dressed up in costumes.

sounded like a request doomed to fail.

But apparently, we had two guy devils, one with blinking red horns (which ran out of batts halfway through dinner) and the other a non-blinking cushioned horns with black fur!? And Alvin with a mole drawn on one side of his chin.

The girls on the other hand, made a tiny bit more effort in our choice of costume. Yinz channeled a character from The Phantom of the Opera with her mask. She had to unmask herself eventually cz its either that or no dinner. Because the mask wasn't manufactured to disguise anyone at the dinner table. Audrey decided to be Audrey. like .. wow! =.= As for me, I was Frankenstein.

But ofcourse, I wore my costume on my nails. HAHH!!

This is a special post this one, because its THANKSGIVING!! in Korea though.

Say what? Chuseok, also known as Hangahwi, is a Korean equivalent to Thanksgiving, where the locals honor their ancestors for whatever these past relatives have contributed for the present generation. In 2010, Chuseok is celebrated from September 21st to 23rd. Which I think, assuming that a large aggregate of the population in metropolitans and cities are returning to their respective hometowns, the usually jam-packed roads would be rather empty. A plus side for those staying back in the metropolitan!? So to all Koreans who happen to come by my humble blog space ..

I picked up a book from the university library one slow afternoon, goes by the title MARRYING FOR MONEY by Chris Manby, made it my bedtime story for the past week, finally finished last night and I have to say I loved it!

From what the title of the book says, I expected a story about rich families and arranged marriages of heirs and what nots. Boy was I being a stereotypical prospective book reader person. Well, I suppose one shouldn't jump to conclusions to judge a book by its cover, though I must say the cover is rather cute.

To avoid spoilers, I shall keep my commentary, as a commentary should be; brief.

It tells the story of a search for that bachelor, the one who has the qualities to provide what women in general would seek, but of course, not all women want the same things.

Its that time of the year again; no its not Christmas yet, Monash Annual Ball's just around the corner! and yes, posters for the 2010 Monash Ball has made its appearance on the Sunway campus' notice boards.

The posters feature a brilliant cut diamond, probably sitting on black glass, with silver glitters sprinkled over black background, and letterings in light gold, dusted with gold glitters. Since posters are usually a big giveaway to the theme of most events, let's crack our heads a little and try to decipher what this year's theme is going to be, just for the fun of it. Look at it this way, the faster you crack the code, the faster you can start planning your 'look', and the faster you do that, the faster you get to go shopping. Now that's efficiency! >.
